What is the LDS Philanthropies National Planned Giving Council?
As a volunteer council of estate-planning professionals (attorneys, certified public accountants, financial planners, and insurance professionals), the National Planned Giving Council (NPGC) is interested in helping LDS Philanthropies in its mission to assist members and friends of the Church in meeting the needs of people worldwide.
Purpose
The Planned Giving Office of LDS Philanthropies formed the NPGC to:
- Foster relationships between estate-planning professionals and LDS Philanthropies in order to facilitate donor-inclined giving through planned gifts.
- Create a vehicle to exchange information regarding trends in the professional estate-planning world and inform professionals and donors of the giving opportunities at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Regional Chapters
Until 2006, the NPGC was divided into regional councils. However, to facilitate requests from professionals in areas where a regional chapter is not feasible, the Planned Giving Office organized the regional councils into a national council with regional chapters.
Currently there are seven chapters.
- Southeastern Idaho
- Las Vegas, Nevada
- Phoenix, Arizona
- Provo, Utah (BYU)
- Seattle, Washington
- Salt Lake City, Utah
- St. George, Utah
However, membership is not contingent on whether there is a chapter in the area. Once there are a sufficient number of members in an area, a chapter chair will be selected.
The chapters are set up to benefit both the professionals and LDS Philanthropies. In order to more effectively distribute and gather information between the NPGC and LDS Philanthropies, most communication will be done electronically and will be supplemented by mailings from LDS Philanthropies.
NPGC Meetings
Beginning in 2006, the format for NPGC meetings was changed to accommodate the expanded council. Each year, a seminar will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah. The seminar will be focused on timely charitable estate-planning issues and techniques. For more information on the 2008 NPGC Seminar, please email the Planned Giving Office at plannedgiving@ldschurch.org. Registration for the seminar will begin in the coming month.
In addition to the annual seminar, regional events will be held as opportunities arise to foster relationships between NPGC members and LDS Philanthropies staff. For more information about upcoming events, please click here.
